Meet Alan Powell

As mentioned before, Richard Alan Powell was raised by a pastor dad in Fort Meyers, Florida. He describes himself with the words “Not I but Christ.” His favorite verse is Philippians 1:21, which reads “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
He was nicknamed “Big Al” by a few people, but hates it. Alan says that other people try to call him that, and he doesn’t approve. As a kid, he looked up to Emmitt Smith and various music artists including Michael Jackson, Michael W. Smith, Rob Thomas, John Mayer, dc Talk, and Top 40. Powell says that he used to imitate Michael Jackson and Michael W. Smith while singing. The first album Alan ever remembers purchasing was Michael W. Smith’s “I’ll Lead You Home.” He’d love to collaborate with someone who is “passionate about reaching people and making great music.” The most embarrassing music on his iPod would be Savage Garden’s “I Knew I Loved You.” If he had to take a different life path, Alan says that he probably would be doing something along the lines of being a New Testament professor. He had been studying to be one before he became involved in Anthem Lights/Yellow Cavalier.
As far as wisdom goes, the best advice Powell remembers receiving from his mom or dad is “If you do it, it's cool.” Alan says it “really helped me not fall into peer pressure.” If there was one thing he would’ve liked to have known five years ago, Alan wishes he knew “how big Facebook would be.”
A couple random facts about Alan are that he is a Dallas Cowboy fan and his biggest strength (other than singing) is dancing. He also is an extremely picky eater—eating mostly chicken (he’s a massive Chick-fil-A fan), pizza, pasta, and sandwiches. His favorite breakfast cereals are frosted flakes, fruit loops, and Wheaties. Alan says that he’s never eaten a salad in his life. To drink, Powell prefers apple juice, milk, an Icee, or (his recent addiction) coffee. For a late night snack, perhaps while watching a movie or his favorite TV show, Everybody Loves Raymond, Alan would have fudge tracks ice cream or a fruit smoothie.
