Just a Little History...

Sydney: I began writing a book about Anthem Lights a while ago. While I never finished it, I did complete enough to share a little bit with everyone on this blog. So, as promised last week, here come the articles about the band and some of the members of it...

 Introduction:
Anthem Lights—those two words mean so much to four specific people by the names of Alan Powell, Caleb Grimm, Chad Graham, and Joseph Stamper. That name also has significance to the thousands of fans—girls and guys—known as the “Lightbulbs.” Liked by 85,658 (and growing every day) on Facebook, the group has been referred to as a “Christian boy band,” and their music style fits under the titles of Pop rock, Christian rock, and Christian pop.

The Beginning:
Raised in Florida by a godly mom and pastor dad, Richard Alan Powell grew up in church. One of the people he knew and grew up with from there was Chad Graham. That’s why, years later, when Chad called him up and asked if he would help him write music for his solo Christian project, Alan’s obvious answer was “yes.” Powell had moved to West Coast to pursue a solo secular music career, and when Chad contacted him, Alan told him to come to California to see what they could do. In the fall of 2007, the two were in Los Angeles writing for and working on Graham’s record. As they were about to finish the final vocals for the album, the two realized that the songs would probably sound better performed by an entire band. In efforts to find the perfect fits, Chad and Alan got a hold of some people from their former college, Liberty University, in Virginia. Graham and Powell informed the school of their ideas on what the group’s ministry and music style would be. Their contacts pointed toward two people named Kyle Kupecky and Caleb Grimm. Emails were sent to Kyle and Caleb about the musical opportunity. The two were extremely excited. Grimm says that he wasn’t even sure if it was true or not at first. Chad flew out and met the guys. He says that they were “perfect fits.” The group was about to get started. That’s when Alan decided to join the band. Thus, what was Yellow Cavalier at the time was formed.
Yellow Cavalier:
From 2008 to 2009, Powell, Kupecky, Grimm, and Graham were known as Yellow Cavalier. The group released one EP under that name. It was released on May 26, 2009 and consisted of seven songs (“Give It All To You,” “Down,” “So Beautiful,” “Never Stop Runnin',” “Freedom Into Slavery,” “Give It All To You (Radio Edit),” and “So Beautiful (Acoustic Remix)”).
